GOOD TO KNOW

A
  • AXIAL SINTERING
  • Technical term for the combination of 2 rings in different golden colors that are pushed over each other and combined into one piece forever by a kind of welding process.
  • ALLERGIES
  • Allergic reactions mostly appear due to nickel in low-grade metal alloys. Since our precious metal alloys are thoroughly checked and of a certified standard, this risk will not occur.
  • ALLOYS
  • In accordance with Wikipedia, an alloy is a metal material consisting of at least two elements - concerning wedding rings, these are a gold, platinum or silver alloy, which hallmark indicates the amount of the respective precious metal referring to 1000 parts. SICKINGER wedding rings can be made in the different colored gold alloys in 333/- , 375/- , 585/-, and 750/-, as well as in platinum and palladium 950/- and 585/-, Pd-silver 800/-, and silver 925/-.
B
  • BICOLOR
  • Concerning wedding rings, bicolor is a term used for the combination of different precious metal colors. This not only allows you to design your pair of rings with more variety, but it also allows you to coordinate your rings better with your individual preferences, skin tone, watch, and other pieces of jewelry.
  • BRILLIANT CUT
  • The round of a diamond in a brilliant cut consists of 58 facets that are arranged in perfect angles, including the culet. If the cut has optimal proportions, the diamond shines brilliantly and in a fascinating fire, which makes the diamond sparkle with every movement.
C
  • CARAT
  • The weight of diamonds and gemstones is indicated by carat. 1 carat is divided into 100 points and equals 0.20 grams. The historical origin of this weight unit is the weight of a dried seed of the carob tree, such like the popular 1 carat diamond.

8 or 9 carat, 14 carat, 18 carat and 24 carat for fine gold are formerly common weight specifications for today’s alloy specifications of gold. They correspond to 333/- or 375/-, 585/-, 750/- and 999/- gold alloys.
  • CERTIFICATION
  • The certification of a manufacturing procedure by an independent institute provides a seal of quality. It says something about the quality of a product, about abode safety requirements, and environmental properties. It provides the consumer with information about quality or characteristics, and it documents the trustworthiness of the manufacturer. SICKINGER wedding rings are made under the umbrella of egf Manufaktur and we are proud of our "quality certificate for high-quality wedding rings".
  • CLARITY
  • The clarity of a diamond is measured by criteria on a clarity scale. It indicates how many inclusions the eye of a professional can see at 10-times magnification. The clearer the diamond, the rarer and more valuable it is.
  • COLOR
  • The color of a diamond influences its value immensely. The color scale ranges from D to Z, from colorless to light yellow. The most popular diamond color is D, colorless.
  • CONFIDENCE
  • Confidence is the fifth C, which you can have in the certified quality and the flawless origin of our professionally examined diamonds.
  • CONFIGURATOR
  • The wedding ring configurator by SICKINGER is a specially developed computer program that offers you the possibility to individually design your rings and to directly inquire about their current price. At the same time, you are preparing the perfect basis for a personal consultation at one of our local jewelers.
  • CUT
  • The cut of a diamond accounts for the perfect angles in which the facets are arranged and which reflect the incident light optimally. It accounts for the proverbial fire of the diamond.
  • CUT, CARAT, CLARITY AND COLOR - THE 4Cs
  • For the precise definition of value for a diamond, these 4 criteria are crucial and inseparable.
D
  • DIAMOND SETTING
  • Whether it is the classical set diamond, princess, baguette or another diamond cut set into the ring band, a freestanding tension setting, diamond rows as a channel setting, or as a cut flat or linear towards the ring band, etc. - be inspired by the varied possibilities of diamond settings from all the SICKINGER wedding ring models, as well as by the assembled overview in the configurator.
  • DIAMONDS AND CUT SHAPES
  • Besides being the king of gemstones, diamonds have a Mohs hardness of 10, the highest level of hardness known on earth - so a guarantee for life-long sparkle in every respect. Apart from the mostly used round diamond cut, there are other fancy cuts, like heart, princess, baguette, navette, drops, oval, and many more.
E
  • ENGRAVING
  • An engraving, whether as a traditional engraving in the ring band or as a design element on the side or on top of the ring band, is a very personal feature for your pair of rings - whether it is a message of love or a classical engraving of name and date in one of the offered fonts. Even one’s own handwriting and sig-nature, a respective finger print, a picture or a life line according to a template can be engraved at SICKINGER thanks to the latest laser technology.
G
  • GOLD
  • Gold originally has a yellow color - it is no coincidence we use the term 'yellow gold'. For a symbolic piece of jewelry like a wedding ring, it is the classic precious metal. By adding precious metals and metals of different colors, its color scale ranges from yellow to rose, red, green, gray, and white.
H
  • HALLMARK
  • A hallmark is an imprint in metal. Thus, the image is imprinted into the material and can be seen as a negative image. The precious metal for every piece of jewelry is furnished with a hallmark for the respective alloy or alloys. Since we guarantee the purity of our alloys and the quality of our rings, we mark every SICKINGER wedding ring with an additional RS hallmark.
  • HANDIWORK
  • The highly qualified work of the masters of their craft - experienced goldsmiths, setters, polishers, and engravers - makes it possible that every ring by SICKINGER is not only perfect in regards to the handicraft but is also made according to your personal wishes.
I
  • INDIVIDUALIZATION
  • The variety of the SICKINGER wedding ring collection and the possibility to personally design your rings with our configurator allows every couple to design their rings as uniquely and individually as their love.
  • INTERNATIONAL
  • SICKINGER wedding rings are made under the umbrella of egf Manufaktur - wedding rings 'made by egf Manufaktur' stand for the highest standards of excellence and quality throughout Europe, as well as in Asia and overseas. Simply 'made in Germany'!
M
  • MULTICOLORED WEDDING RINGS
  • The diverse color palette of the precious metals alloyed by SICKINGER also opens up wide and exciting design possibilities through the combination of different metal colors.
P
  • PALLADIUM
  • Palladium belongs to the group of platinum metals. It is offered in the alloys Pd 950/- and Pd 585 /- as well. Hence, it has a similar light color and just as good properties as platinum. However, palladium is much lighter and therefore, wedding rings made from palladium can be offered at a much lower price.
  • PATENT
  • We are proud of the little "secrets" of our specially developed technical and artisanal specialties in production with egf Manufaktur. They are partly even trademarked by patents and protections of registered utility models; they are an important part for the quality of SICKINGER wedding rings.
  • PLATINUM
  • Platinum, the rarest, finest, purest, and most valuable precious metal has the highest demands concerning its extraction and processing. Making a wedding ring from platinum 950/- or platinum 600/- requires special tools, highly qualified craftsmen and complicated processes. During the forging process, platinum becomes firmer and tougher than gold or silver. A piece of jewelry made from 950 platinum is about 35% heavier than a piece of the same size made from 750 gold and it contains 74% more pure precious metal. Although platinum is very firm and tough, it is just as little scratchproof as the other jewelry metals. Over time, all jewelry pieces - and especially rings - show traces of wear. Platinum has another special characteristic: It has no wear. Gold, for example, wears out in the course of decades. With the tough platinum, the material just shifts sideways. It shows no signs of wear. This is precisely what makes the platinum wedding ring a special symbol of consistency: It stays what it was - even though daily wear leaves superficial traces: Those are individual and personal marks of a long life.
  • PRECIOUS METALS
  • For the pair of rings of your love, you are spoiled by the choices between yellow gold, red gold, rosé gold, green gold, white gold, gray gold, platinum, palladium, and silver. All of these precious metals are available in many different alloys. Besides the fascination we always have had with precious metals, it is their value, their brilliance, their great plasticity and elasticity during their processing, and their chemical and physical properties that make them unique for wedding rings as life-long companions.
  • PROFILE
  • The shape of a ring in cross section is called a ring profile. Apart from the personal preference, the profile of a wedding ring is highly relevant for a comfortable fit on your hand and for wearing properties - very important for a wedding ring that you wear every day. In this sense, most of the twelve polished and elegant SICKINGER ring profiles are slightly convex on the inside (embossed).
Q
  • QUALITY
  • SICKINGER manufactures your pair of wedding rings individually from seamless, extremely compressed precious metal. In order to document the highest production requirements for consistent material hardness and high-quality performance, we test our production independently over and over again - the entire production process is certified and regularly audited by the quality assurance system of the Schmucktechnologischen Institut (jewelry-technological institute) of the Hochschule Pforzheim (Pforzheim University).
R
  • REFURBISHING
  • In case you feel the need to remove (wear) marks, which life leaves on your rings: We are happy to take care of that for you.
  • RHODIUM
  • Rhodium, together with the platinum metals palladium, iridium, and osmium, is extracted from raw platinum ore in a complicated procedure. It is similar to platinum and palladium. It has a clear white color and is used for jewelry, as well as for glasses frames, and as a coating for watches. This coating is very hard and chemically stable. It is especially used for coating silver and white gold. The coating procedure is called rhodium plating.
  • RING SIZE
  • Correctly measured ring sizes are prerequisites for the precise manufacturing of your individual pair of rings and for their perfect fit and wearing comfort. Especially concerning this point, a personal consultation at one of our jewelers is very important.
S
  • SEAMS
  • The deepened line on a ring is called a seam. On the one hand, with their different shapes and widths, they serve as a design element. On the other hand, they are a necessary dividing line between metal colors, different surfaces, and diamond settings (see configurator).
  • SERVICE
  • Please contact our jeweler partners for consultation and ordering your SICKINGER wedding rings. They are also at your disposal for everything else, like purchase and offsetting of old gold, refurbishment, changing the width of your ring, and much more.
  • SETTINGS
  • The classic ways to set the most commonly used brilliant cut diamonds into precious metal are to "rub them in", with a flat or linear cut, in a channel or tension setting. The possibilities of these settings and their creative variation are diversely used in the SICKINGER collection and are perfectly presented in our configurator to provide an overview.
  • SILVER
  • The most important silver alloys today are copper-silver alloys. They are often named after their fineness of silver, expressed in thousandths. The most common silver alloy for jewelry is 925 silver and is named sterling silver after British currency. SICKINGER adds their patented 800 silver-palladium alloy to this. It is, in its color, but especially in its hardness and the annoying tarnishing of silver, a great development. And it, for example, makes the magical color plays of the SICKINGER collection 'Luce di Luna' possible.
  • SURFACES
  • The surface is a distinctive detail of ring design. The classical and most popular surfaces are polished, lengthwise matt or a combination of both. Furthermore, there are seven additional and partly very expressive possibilities for SICKINGER wedding rings. But no matter which surface you choose, traces of wear always show - they are small symbols of your daily life, change, and joint development in a relationship.
  • SUSTAINABILITY
  • Wedding rings by SICKINGER are exclusively made from verifiably mined, strictly evaluated, and monitored precious metals, which are alloyed and melted at our own manufacturer in Pforzheim. The entire production process is certified and is regularly audited by the quality assurance system of the Schmucktechnologischen Institut (jewelry-technological institute) of the Hochschule Pforzheim (Pforzheim University). We exclusively use diamonds with a verifiable origin. Our entire processing methods meet the highest demands for sustainability and environmental protection.
T
  • TRACES OF WEAR
  • Your wedding ring is supposed to be a companion in all of life’s situations - but this also includes a metal door knob, a tool, a glass bottle, gardening, household chores, etc. All of this leaves traces on your ring, which surface changes over time. One could even say this is a symbol for the development of joint life. It is no lack of quality but an individual feature of the respective person, depending on his use. A polished surface becomes more like a matt one and a matt surface becomes more like a polished one. However, a local jeweler will also take care of this by refurbishing it if necessary.

U
  • UNIQUE
  • The genetic, as well as the actual finger print are the best examples of the uniqueness of every individual person. The individually designed, manufactured, and with a personally engraved "signed" wedding ring matches the knowledge and desire to express this.
V
  • VALUES
  • Gold, platinum, and diamonds generally represent the material value of your wedding rings. However, the high quality in which your wedding rings were manufactured, and their individual and affectionate design are also a symbol of love, trust, promise, responsibility, and of constant caring for each other - these are the real values of a lifelong relationship.
  • VICKERS HARDNESS
  • According to DIN standard, the Vickers hardness test serves the evaluation of homogeneous materials, including the evaluation of precious metal alloys. Due to their daily wear, wedding rings are under enormous pressure. Therefore, the hardness of the material is very important. Due to a specially developed and trademarked procedure of cold forming, SICKINGER wedding rings are characterized by above-average Vickers hardness.
W
  • WEARING COMFORT
  • Height, width, and profile shape of a wedding ring are crucial for the wearing comfort. Since it is known that no hand is like the other, the configuration system gives you the possibility to optimally design your wedding ring shape withregards to these three parameters - the ideal case is that you will not want to take it off ever again.
  • WHITE GOLD
  • The name white gold is generally used for gold alloys that contain all nuances of gray but not of white. Actually, white precious metals only include silver and platinum. Especially the alloying metals palladium and silver, as well as manganese are responsible for the change of the actually yellow gold to a white or gray color. Depending on its alloy and standard, the jewel is coated with a layer of rhodium. Rhodium is a white and very hard platinum metal. In case of abrasion after years of wear, this layer can always be renewed.
  • WISH LIST
  • Use the wish list feature in SICKINGER‘s configurator in order to keep track of the eligible models. On a USB drive or printed out, these models are the perfect basis for a consultation at one of our jewelers.
